How to go on? In an interview with The Music Collector’s Magazine Goldmine, published on Jan 13, 2015, Ant says: “There are many types of album I would like to do […] Something in the vein of Geese / Slow Dance perhaps, or a more song-y album … We’ll see!” Despite my bulging CD cupboard: There is always space for the 35th Ant CD, and also for the 36th, and for the 37th and … At this point I would like to repeat that the complete disregard of the third Missing Links albums is utterly beyond me: I would never have done without Songoku and Schuan Journey, neither should Indio Wedding, Underwater Forest or Fiesta Del Charangos have been left out. What remains is, simply, to put together your own 5CD compilation! ANTHONY PHILLIPS, an essential founding member of Genesis as we know, had a change in style which is

Before we begin to find flies in the ointment let us praise Mark Powell and Jonathan Dann who have created a fabulous and lovingly made compilation. Jonathan Dann has written half a book for the booklet telling the life and music of Ant with many new and hardly known facets. Kudos for that! Conclusion: '1984' is completely different from 'The Geese And The Ghost' and 'Wise After The Event'. 'The Geese In my late teens I had bought on used vinyl the first two albums by the ex-Genesis guitarist Anthony Phillips, and liked Thistle Field Battle (1:16) (0:30) [Old Sarum Suite: (iv) The Fleet Assembles - Raising The Standard]* Field Day is a studio double album by English multi-instrumentalist and composer Anthony Phillips, released in October 2005 by Blueprint Records.catchy song with an atmosphere and sounds comparable to the more upbeat songs of ...And Then There Were Three. He may well be ranking behind Ray Wilson even in the Genesis family. This is for several reasons. One, he does not play live. Two, he has never had a major commercial success. Still, Ant has found his niche and he has a faithful audience (including yours truly) who regularly buy his released and enjoy his music even though it may not all leaves me in raptures.

the best songs to showcase Phillips' unique acoustic guitar style and reserved vocals. It's a slow song very sweet and I think there is no man on this planet who does not regret anything they have done in their life. In another life I would not have left Genesis. I would be part of the fantastic music they went on to write. On the other hand, if I had stayed on I could not have expanded my abilities in the field of classical music. I would not have learned about arranging and could not play the piano properly. You can always think this, that or the other would have been better. But I also think that touring and the pressure that goes with it are not for everybody. And it absolutely was not for me. […] It would have been nice to be better known. But I am also very grateful for things as they are, because there are many people who really have to work extremely hard. I stand in the middle. I feel that I have done many things right and quite well.”

Kit Williams released Masquerade, using the picture book format in a new innovative way. In the wake of theFor the second time in just a few months I find myself listening to Phillips’ sumptuous oeuvre. The first time was to prepare for the it Anthony Phillips Event in Eichenzell-Welkers in March 2014. There are worse fates than this, for this job is an honour and a pleasure for me. Though I do not like everything good old Ant has released through the ages, but I enjoy some 80 to 90 percent of his output. Now let us begin, for what else could you be doing in the winter holidays? “Daddy, let’s go toboggan!” – “Uh, I haven’t got time for that, I am listening to Anthony Phillips!” – “Tomorrow, then?” – “Naaah, I’m going to be listening to Anthony Phillips.” – “The day after tomorrow?” – “Naah, I’m going to…” My daughter has surrendered – she listens to Anthony Phillips now, too.

Notes

For my musical life, the Anthony Phillips Event that took place in Welkers, Germany, on March 22 and 23, 2014 was a definite highpoint. I got to go on stage with my friend Steffen Gerlach in front of Ant, one of the founders of my musical heroes GENESIS (!) and play some of his songs. Surreal. Terrific! The first night I could barely hold my guitar, I was so excited, the second night was a pleasure. When Ant greeted me with a friendly “Ah, The Knife is here!” I could have gone. What other accolades could one wish for? … perhaps Ant remembers “those two dudes” when he listens to The Knife or Golden Bodies. really his first album, because "The Geese And The Ghost", despite being came out under his name solely, was very So yeah, safe to say this is one of my favourite Anthony Phillips albums, and I love a lot of his output. It's an acquired taste, as it won't necessarily please Genesis fans, nor will it please the electronic music-aficionado's, nor New Age lovers, nor acoustic guitar-lovers. But whomever is able to dive into it, accept it for what it is, and give oneself over to it, will count it among the great masterpieces from the fringes of the progressive movement. The first of the three albums recorded by Phillips with the Argentinian classical guitarist Quique Berro-Garcia has still
